Lismore Christadelphian Meeting Hall update.

After a lot of hard work and big generosity our Meeting Hall is back in use.

The Lismore Christadelphian Meeting Hall flood recovery update.

The Christadelphian Meeting Hall was among the thousands of home and business buildings severely affected by the February 2022 floods. The Meeting Hall is located in South Lismore where the inundation commenced between 3.30am and 4am on Monday morning and by 7.30am the water had risen to a staggering 2.4 metres which was higher than any previously recorded floods.  The peak occured about 3pm at around 3.6 metres on the ground. Preparations had been made inside the hall but the water came close to the top of the windows even covering articles which had been lifted onto  tables and shelves.

THE GENEROSITY
As the report of the disaster began to spread donations of financial assistance, clothing and household basics began to "pour in" from Christadelphian members and people from all over Australia and other parts of the world. The generosity in all forms of assistance was overwhelming. There was so much generosity our flooded church building soon became one of the distribution centres for other flood affected residents to be given supplies, physical help and support for several months. We were able to help our local community with loans of donated clean up equipment, including generators and high-pressure cleaners. Teams of mostly young people were sent out to help clean up flood affected properties and help residents to remove all of the destroyed household contents onto the side of the road for the garbage trucks to take away. We provided emotional support and encouragement while we listened to their stories and did what we could for them in Jesus’ name.

RELIEF FOR VICTIMS
Initially, financial and practical donations received in the aftermath of the floods were used to give emergency relief and assistance to church members and others in the community who were severely affected as their homes or businesses were devastated. As we moved into the next phase of recovery, much of the financial donations were used to assist in repairs and rebuilding, especially for those who did not have flood insurance and had no ability to pay for the necessities required to get them back on their feet again.

THE WORK COMMENCES
Our meeting hall remained as a distribution centre for around four or five months and was then cleared for work to commence on the removal of asbestos and damaged structural materials. The hall had to be completely gutted internally, and rebuilding commenced with leveling the structure. As a result of the massive amount of post flood restoration work needed in the Northern Rivers Region it was difficult to enlist tradies, but we were blessed to have some of the best as members and they were able to do most of the necessary restoration and fit out. The internals of the hall were rebuilt using flood resistant materials and installed in such a way as to make the process of recovery much simpler in case of another flood event. The entire contents of furnishings, kitchen and amenities had to be replaced, and the work was completed and ready for use by April 2024. It was so good to be back and everyone was, and still are, very grateful to God and everyone who gave time, money, goods of all kinds, love and prayers to get us back into oue homes and our meeting hall.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Everyone at the Lismore Christadelphian Ecclesia send their sincere thanks for the overwhelming support we have received from so many people. We had donations of all kinds  from all over Australia and many places overseas. There was so much from so many it became impossible to thank everyone individually. This was especially in regard to the financial donations because so many of them were from anonymous sources. So it was decided to put this little video together to express our appreciation in some small way TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED US IN ANY WAY AT ALL
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
